Red is universally associated with danger, stopping, and restricted areas. It is used to mark an intervention perimeter, signal a risk zone at a road traffic accident, or indicate the edge of a burning roof. Red captures the attention of approaching drivers and emergency responders in the dark.
Green indicates a safe point, a team member's position, or a landmark for progress. In forest fires or nighttime search operations, green allows a team leader to locate their crews remotely without confusion with warning signals. It also serves as a forward-facing white work light.

Nighttime intervention on a motorway or expressway. The risk of a secondary accident is significant. The Guardian Angel, flashing red on the uniform or placed on the road, is visible from over 5 km away. A driver approaching at 130 km/h will see the signal in time to slow down. The reflective strips on the uniform, however, are only effective up to 150 meters with low-beam headlights.
Team locations in wide-open terrain
A forest fire is often fought at night, across areas of several hectares, with dispersed teams and congested radio communications. The Guardian Angel, attached to the helmet or pack, allows each team member to be visually located from several kilometers away. Identification in dense smoke
In a smoke-filled building, even with SCBA, visual identification of crew members is difficult.
